ASI ART PROGRAM

The ASI Art program is displaying “Luxury Item: The Monster It Made Us” in the Bronco Exhibit Gallery outside Ursa Major in the Bronco Student Center (BSC, Bldg. 35-2611). The display is a collective project done by the Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) liberal studies department and is a reflection of how drought affects different socioeconomic roots in Southern California.

 

BRONCO EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES TEAM (BEAT)

Are you an event planner at heart? Volunteer with BEAT! They will provide food and fun at every meeting! Stop by the BSC, England Evans during U-Hour the first Thursday of every month (January 5, February 2, March 2).

Spend Friday the 13th with BEAT as they host a screening of horror flick, “Don’t Breathe” at their Backyard Movie Night on January 13 from 7-9:30 p.m. at the BSC, Ursa Major AB (Bldg. 35-2611AB).

Get your swing dance on at Swing Night on Friday, Jan. 27 from 7-9 p.m. at the BSC, Ursa Major (Bldg. 35-2611). Enjoy a live jazz band as you learn the art of swing dancing from a professional instructor!

Become the next Sherlock and find the guilty suspect at Murder Mystery on Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 7:30-10 p.m. at Kellogg House. The event will be masquerade themed and will include dinner for participants for $10.

Show your school some love during Bronco Spirit Week from February 20-24! Join us for fun events and giveaways throughout the week and make sure you wear your CPP gear for food discounts at the BSC (Bldg. 35)!

Join us for the quarterly Midnight Madness on Friday, March 10 from 10 p.m. to midnight at the BSC (Bldg. 35) for free fun, games, activities, giveaways, food and much more!

 

BRONCO STUDENT CENTER (BSC, Bldg. 35)

During week 10, the BSC (Bldg. 35) will have longer hours to provide students with a safe study spot. Enjoy studying, free snacks and testing supplies (while supplies last).

 

CAMPUS RECREATION

Being a member of the Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC) is rewarding and Campus Rec wants to show you how. On Wednesday, Jan. 25, Campus Rec is showering members with free giveaways, prizes and more from open to close as part of Member Appreciation Day to show CPP just how thankful they are for their ongoing dedication!

Campus Rec is celebrating National Recreation Day with their annual Rec Fest on Friday, March 3 from 7-10 p.m. Join Campus Rec for free games, activities, giveaways, food and more! First 100 student participants will receive a free T-shirt!

Come enjoy a night in winter wonderland at Winterpoolooza, where you can enjoy music, board games, giveaways and a tummy full of Starbucks and Round Table. The pool party will be held Friday, January 27 from 6-8 p.m. at the BRIC pool.

Watch the 51st Super Bowl at the BRIC poolside lounge. Campus Rec will be projecting a live streaming of the game starting at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 5. Bring your friends for free food, giveaways and to cheer on your team when they take the win!

Campus Rec is hosting an Aquatics Fitness Instructor course. Certification will be through Water Arts, which is an international company that promotes additional certification courses to help develop your skills as an instructor. This is great for people who would like to teach fitness classes in the water as opposed to private swim lesson instruction. This will be held Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5.

For those of you who would like to become more advanced in diving, look into one of our additional diving certifications. These certifications include Coral Reef Conservation Specialty, Enriched Air Specialty and ReActivate.

See you at the BRIC poolside lounge on Wednesday, January 18 for the viewing of “Guardians of the Galaxy” from 7-9 p.m. Enjoy laying back in an inner tube or curling up on the couches next to the heat lamps as you watch your favorite misfits take on the universe.

Climber 101 will host four progressive workshops on Jan. 18, Jan. 25, Feb. 1 and Feb. 8 from 7-9 p.m., leading up to an outdoor rock climbing trip to Joshua Tree National Park on Feb. 11 and 12 for a weekend of rock climbing and overnight desert camping.

The Alpinist program will host four progressive workshops on Jan. 23, Jan. 30, Feb. 6 and Feb. 13 from 7-9 p.m., leading up to an outdoor trip to Mt. Baldy on Feb. 18 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a day of snow travel and alpine skills.

Join Campus Rec for their Joshua Tree Camp & Explore trip for a night of adventure and fun! The trip will take place from January 21-22 and will be $75 for members (price includes transportation and food). Register on RecPortal.

Intramural (IM) sports will be hosting dodgeball, basketball, volleyball and indoor soccer for their winter sports league, Broncos! The deadline to form a team is Thursday, Jan. 19 on RecPortal.

So you want to join IM sports, but don’t have a team? No worries! Join Campus Rec for their Free Agent Mixer on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. at the BRIC poolside lounge. Enjoy free food and find your next IM sports team to play with!

IM sports is hitting the batting cages! Join them for a Night at the Batting Cages on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. at Clubhouse Batting Cages on Valley Blvd. Register on RecPortal.

Attend Campus Rec’s three foam rolling workshops and receive your very own foam roller for free! The workshops will be held on Fridays, Jan. 27, Feb. 17 and March 3 from noon to 1 p.m. at the BRIC (Bldg. 42). Register on RecPortal.

Sunset Yoga will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 1 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the BRIC poolside lounge. The first 10 participants to register on RecPortal will receive a free yoga mat!

Need someone who will hold you accountable to your goals? Join the winter fitness challenge and work with an online coach who will provide you with health, nutrition and fitness tips to help you get closer to achieving your goals! CHILDREN’S CENTER

Are you a CPP student looking to volunteer with the Children’s Center? Be sure to present records of the following immunizations: measles, pertussis, influenza and a current TB test done within the last year. Then, make sure you fill out the application online.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

Financial Services is excited to announce that they have finished updating the 2016-17 Smart Spending handbook. The new edition contains all the latest policies and procedures, and for the first time ever, provides in-depth, step-by-step instructions on most frequently used financial forms. This handbook was written with students in mind to help students navigate the financial jungle. The handbook can be found on the ASI website under Financial Services.

Several new forms have been updated, including the Disbursement Request (DR) and Travel Expense Claim form. Please make sure to always use the new form when submitting them to Financial Services.

Beginning December 15, 2016, we will be strictly enforcing the time requirements for filing travel forms. The Travel Authorization and Release of Liability Forms (for student clubs and organizations) must be submitted to ASI Financial Services at least 10 business days before travel.  Please plan ahead so that you can receive all authorized signatures in a timely manner to meet the deadlines.  We will not accept your claim form for reimbursement if you have not complied with this policy.

GAMES ROOM ETC. (GRE)

ASI Games Room Etc. is bringing back Paint On Canvas with a session on Thursday, Feb. 9 from 6-8 p.m. in the GRE (Bldg. 35-1110). Learn how to paint from an artist; supplies, food and drinks included for free!

The GRE will be hosting numerous tournaments throughout winter quarter. Pool tournaments will be held Jan. 20 and Feb. 17 at noon; first, second and third place winners will receive $150, $100 and $50 VISA gift cards respectively. Pingpong tournaments will be held Jan. 18 and Feb. 15 at 5 p.m.; first, second and third place winners will receive $75, $50 and $25 VISA gift cards respectively.

Street Fighter tournaments will be held every Monday from 6-9 p.m. Super Smash Bros. tournaments will be held on Tuesdays from 5-10 p.m. (Melee) and Wednesdays from 4-10 p.m. (Smash 4).

International Women’s Conference: Women’s Global Perspectives is a two-day event. Join us to view the film, “Girl Rising”, on March 9 from 1-3 p.m. at the BSC, Ursa Major AB (Bldg. 35-2611). Come back the second day for an interactive symposium with international panelists on March 10 from 9 a.m. to noon in the BSC, Ursa Minor (Bldg. 35-2135).
