Held just days after Valentine’s Day, the annual Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) Gala displayed love’s many faces — romantic, platonic, self-love, and even musical passion. The ASI Bronco Events and Activities Team (BEAT) crafted an uplifting atmosphere for the evening, honoring the many expressions of affection that bring joy and connection to our lives. From the tender glances between couples, laughter between friends, and musical performances that stirred the soul, the gala was a reminder of love’s ability to lift us and bring us together.

For Jonathan Liu accompanied by his girlfriend Rovida De Vera, both third-year engineering students, the event exceeded their expectations thanks to the impressive attention to detail. “The event has been really good. It’s surprising to see how much time they put into the event with the decorations and overall presentation — even the lamps and tables were on theme,” Liu remarked.

The Bronco Student Center (BSC, Bldg. 35) matched the uplifting spirit of the gala, with festive decorations and activities that highlighted the night’s theme of love and connection. Attendees posed at the photo booth, capturing memories of the magical evening. At DIY art stations, attendees indulged their creative side, making Valentine’s cards and love-themed crafts. Talented caricature artists captured the night by gifting attendees with personalized drawings. At the flower bar, guests thoughtfully compiled bouquets to give loved ones.

The dance floor came alive with live band performances that had couples clasping hands and guests dancing the night away. Lucas Lopez, a first-year music major, had been looking forward to this moment all night, as music is his way of expressing love. “I mostly express love through music. I play and listen to music that genuinely makes me happy and I’m really enjoying the performers tonight,” Lopez said, clearly in his element.

For some attendees, the night was a celebration of self-love, a needed reminder during the Valentine’s season. Radiating confidence, senior agribusiness major, Franly Rivera said, “Attending the gala has made my Valentine’s season special because I get to look beautiful for myself and show up for myself. I am enjoying life and this event on my own.” She added, “I loved the stuffed pillow activity — it’s nice to have a memento of the night, along with my cute caricature art.” Rivera appreciated the gala’s inclusive spirit and seized the opportunity to honor self-care and self-acceptance.

The delectable course prepared by Kellogg West was another highlight of the delightful evening. The culinary team prepared an incredible menu, from savory entrees to Valentine’s Day-themed desserts and drinks.

For friends, Carmen Rodriguez and Lucia Sandoval, first-year biochemistry and art history majors, the food and dressing up were definite highlights.

“It’s so much fun walking around and trying all the amazing food,” Rodriguez enthused. “My favorites were the raspberry macarons and the chicken dumplings.”

Sandoval chimed in, “I love dressing up, so the gala gave me the perfect excuse to buy a new tie. I’m not usually one for big parties, but this is a nice way to hang out with friends and enjoy a fun getaway from school and work.”
