“May the fourth be with you” was a common greeting at Student Activities and Programs (SAP) and Campus Recreation’s May the Fourth celebration, which took place on May 4, of course! The two departments teamed up to bring the campus community a jam-packed evening of entertainment and “Star Wars” themed fun.

To kick off the celebration, Bronco Commons was transformed into a carnival with various rides including a Ferris wheel, a bounce house and a towering slide that could accommodate three people at once.
Classic carnival games gave students the chance to win free prizes, which was a big hit. Martha Rosario, a third-year environmental biology student, has never celebrated May the Fourth before, but she was impressed by all the event had to offer. “I liked the games a lot because they were free! Usually, you have to pay, like, five bucks for them.”

Students also had the chance to try their luck at “Star Wars” themed bingo at the BRIC poolside lounge. Second-year hospitality student, Victoria West deemed this activity as her favorite part of the event, even though the force was not with her during the rounds of bingo she played, and she did not end up with a prize. “They had really popular [Funko Pops] like Rey, Leia, C-3PO,” she exclaimed.

After students had time to give “Star Wars” bingo and all the carnival rides a whirl, the Bronco Commons stage was host to the band Never Shout Never, which brought in a large crowd as well. As the sun was starting to set, students sang along to the band’s hits, including “Trouble” and “On the Brightside.”

“Never Shout Never is a band I’ve listened to for a while,” said third-year communication student Natalie Moore. “It was neat to be able to sing and dance along to their music at my school!”

After the concert came to a close, students rushed over to the BRIC pool, where they helped themselves to a Qdoba nacho bar and viewed a screening of the latest “Star Wars” installment, “The Last Jedi.”
Cheyenne Caballero, first-year transfer agriculture science student stated, “I went to a junior college, so we never did anything like this.” To all her friends that didn’t make it to the event, she says, “you should definitely come next year!”
