The Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC) pool was alive with the sights, smells and sounds of live music, students laughing, water splashing and tacos cooking on Friday, May 20 as Broncos enjoyed Associated Student Inc. (ASI) Campus Recreation’s Rock Bands and Taco Stands party.

Students enjoyed live entertainment provided by the Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) Music Entertainment Industry Club (MEIC), pool and deck games, opportunity drawings and arguably best of all, free tacos courtesy of the Poly Trolley!

Madeline Sin, first-year hospitality management student, attended the event with a handful of friends, looking to unwind and relax as the quarter became closer and closer to finals. Sin entered Campus Rec’s #BRICPoolVibes Instagram contest, and by the end of the night, realized she was one of four winners!

“It made my day when I won the prize for the contest,” the excited Bronco said. “I also didn’t expect to get a free T-shirt on the way in, and I loved it.”

Indeed, there was a lot of free swag to win for Broncos in attendance! In addition to the free Rock Bands and Taco Stands T-shirts being distributed to students arriving to the party, prizes were also being raffled off to attendees every hour, and ASI’s prize wheel was spinning all night!

Students also splashed around in the pool as they tried their hands at key log rolling and the inflatable hamster ball! In fact, the hamster ball was third-year marketing student, Jeraldine Alvis’s favorite part of the night!

“Having these events is so fun, and it helps me forget that finals are coming up,” Alvis said. “It reminds me that even though I’m in college, I’m still allowed to have fun while I’m here.”

As the sun set, students mingled, danced and enjoyed the music as bands Dead Bedouin, Shock!, Porcelain Hill, and Fade Up Fade Out Bye Bye (with Karl from Workaholics) performed on stage.

“I loved the bands,” Sin stated. “You never really know what to expect with rock, but I was really enjoying everyone who performed!”
