Paint strokes with the caption "SoCal Spring - The Campus Crop" over it

The season of (almost) perfect SoCal weather, blooming flowers, green grass and breezy drives would not be complete without the appropriate tunes. To get you into that spring mood, check out our picks for the season, a mix of old and new, laid-back, upbeat and easy tracks to add to your queue.

“Just a Stranger” by Kali Uchis ft. Steve Lacy

Spring is all about renewal, right? This uptempo tune off of Uchis latest, “Isolation” embodies just that. It’s young and fresh but also has some hip-hop undertones thanks to Steve Lacy and BROCKHAMPTON’s Romil Hemnani, who is the producer on this track. We’re here for it!

“The Boy With A Thorn In His Side” by The Smiths

If there was a song made specifically for running through a sunshiny field of flowers, this would be the one. Morrissey’s vocals and Johnny Marr’s guitar are effortlessly beautiful on this 1986 track. Sorry Walmart kid, can we please talk about how Morrissey made yodeling sound so cool in the outro of this song?

“Sacred Sands” by Allah-Las

With all of this sunshine, it’s time to start making your way to the beach. This chill, optimistic beach-side jam by LA surfer natives, Allah-Las provides a splendid vibe for those who like to lay out, crash party waves or graze their toes in the shore-break. Bonus points: this song is also great to listen to while studying for those spring midterms and finals.

“Halah” by Mazzy Star

Take a stroll in the park for a breath of fresh air with Hope Sandoval’s dreamy vocals. How her voice can make us feel happy and want to cry at the same time, we don’t know. Just listen to this ‘90s American dream-pop track off of the band’s debut album, “She Hangs Brightly” and you’ll understand what we’re talking about.

“She Works Out Too Much” by MGMT

Last but definitely not least, MGMT’s long-awaited album, “Little Dark Age” does not disappoint! If you’re looking for a fun spring staple song, MGMT masterfully blends ‘80s pop with futuristic robotic notes on this track. It really makes us wish we had enrolled in KIN 115A (Step Aerobics) this quarter.
