Don’t bring it all
Bring only the essentials. You don’t need all of your tank tops and shorts from summer. Fall is just around the corner, so save space for clothes that will keep you warm from the chill.  Also, try asking your roommates what items you can share before doubling up (ex. coffeemaker, iron, etc.).  You can also always buy supplies or get things sent from home, just in case you are missing a must-have.

Stock up on snacks (you’re going to need them)
Remember, your meal plans are limited. If you find yourself constantly wanting something to eat, especially in class or in between meal times at Los Olivos, you might want to hit up a Target or Walmart and stock up on your favorite snacks.

Bring ethernet cables
There are no wi-fi connections in the dorm buildings on campus, so University Housing Services requires residents to bring ethernet cables. Make sure your cables are long enough so you can move around in your room without losing connection.

Get some help
My room assignment freshman year was on the third floor of Encinitas Hall. I conquered four flights of stairs each time. Fortunately, my whole family was with me to help carry bigger things. It made everything easier and gave me more time to bond with them before saying goodbye.

Don’t lose your keys
As soon as you get your dorm keys, make sure you attach it to a lanyard or with the rest of your personal keys. If you lose your keys, not only will you lose access to your room, you will need to pay for it too.
