We’ve all been there: Somehow we don’t get enough sleep and we are left groggy and unfocused the next day. Fortunately, according to the National Sleep Foundation, “A short nap of 20-30 minutes can help to improve mood, alertness and performance.”

While we don’t have an on-campus spa with nap pods like the Oasis Wellness Center at California State University, Northridge, there are plenty of locations at Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) where you can catch up on some Z’s. Here is our list of the best places to nap on campus.

University Library

The library is often the first place people think of when they need to nap on campus. The Browsing Area on the third floor is a good place to nap with lounge chairs facing windows with adjustable blinds. The fifth and sixth floors of the library are also designated as quiet floors, where people are not allowed to talk, study in groups or make loud noises. If you are confident that you won’t snore, these floors are also a good option to get some rest!

Games Room Etc.

The Games Room Etc. (Bldg. 35-1110) located at the Bronco Student Center (BSC, Bldg. 35) is also a go-to place for students looking to nap. It’s dark, has good seating and has noise that can be easily tuned out to help you sleep.

BRIC Poolside Lounge

The BRIC (Bldg. 42) poolside lounge is an excellent place to nap with dozens of lounge seats and hammocks. Located on the south side of campus, this is one of the most comfortable places to nap outdoors. Just be sure you don’t nap too long in the sun, it could lead to a sunburn.

University Quad

The University Quad, located east of College of Science (Bldg. 8), is a great place to lie down, relax and take a nap. The quad is essentially a large grassy area with pathways separating it into four lawns. If your next class is in the College of Engineering (Bldg. 9), College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences (Bldg. 5) or College of Science (Bldg. 8), this is a convenient place to get some rest.

Japanese Garden

The Japanese Garden, located northwest of the CLA (Bldg. 98), is a peaceful location featuring Asian flora and traditional Japanese design. Take a nap by lying down on the grass or against one of the trees. If you have a class at the College of Business Administration (Bldg. 164), this is a convenient and quiet location to take a quick nap.

Bronco Exhibit Gallery

The Bronco Exhibit Gallery, located on the second floor of the Bronco Student Center (Bldg. 35) above Center Court, is where ASI features its latest art program. It also has a bunch of couches where you can hang out with your friends or take a nap.

Solaris Lounge

The Solaris Lounge, located at the Bronco Student Center (Bldg. 35-1611), is a two story study area filled with lounge furniture like chairs and couches. It is a great place to study for your classes, but it is also comfortable enough to take a quick nap if you need one.

Campus Center Marketplace

The Campus Center Marketplace (Bldg. 97) is a dining area located, you guessed it, in the center of campus. The marketplace houses dining venues such as Carl’s Jr, Panda Express and Taco Bell. It also has ample seating where you can put your head down and take a quick nap.

BRIC Lounge

The BRIC Lounge, located on the first floor left of equipment checkout, is the BRIC’s indoor lounge area with couches and rotating lounge chairs. Students often relax here before or after working out or going to a fitness class. If you need to knock out for a bit, this is a place to do it.
