Anyone who knows me personally knows that I am a book lover and an even bigger lover of the romance genre. This summer, I’m taking advantage of the time I have to catch up on some reading, and of course most of it will be about romance.
Who could have seen that coming?
I’d love to share my most anticipated romance-filled reads that I have read so far this summer!
Every Summer After – Carley Fortune
My rating – 4 out of 5 stars
Is there anything better than childhood friends to lovers who then have a major falling out then get a second chance at love? No. No, there isn’t.
Persephone Fraser (Percy) is a clumsy, book-loving, horror movie fanatic mess in the best way possible. We then have her old friend (and love interest) since childhood and now doctor, Sam Florek, who she hasn’t seen in years. Not since the breakup. Since then, Percy has been punishing herself for the decisions and mistakes she has made in the past.
Now, as adults, the two have reconnected and while they know in their hearts that they are endgame, the road getting there wasn’t always smooth, even when paved with good intentions. It was filled with awkward and messy moments, miscommunication, and of course teen angst. But no matter how long it has been, it’s a wonderful thing to see that neither time nor distance can conquer your feelings for someone.
My rating – 4 out of 5 stars
Nora Stephens is a cutthroat literary agent in New York City. In true “romance novel” fashion, she doesn’t believe that love is for her. She doesn’t view herself as the heroine from the books she reads.
She agrees to go to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for the month of August as part of her research for a book she is publishing. Her sister, Libby, joins her after convincing Nora she needs to find love. But instead of picnics in meadows or run-ins with a handsome country doctor or hunky bartender, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie Lastra, a brooding editor from back in the city. It’s safe to say the two don’t get along very well.
While Nora knows she isn’t the perfect heroine, Charlie is also well aware he is no one’s hero – but as their paths cross repeatedly due to a series of unlikely coincidences, what they learn may tear apart the carefully constructed stories they’ve written about themselves.
It Happened One Summer – Tessa Bailey
My rating – 4.5 out of 5
Piper Bellinger is a fashion icon and social media influencer. Her reputation as a wild child means the paparazzi are constantly on her heels. When too much champagne and an out-of-control rooftop party lands Piper in the slammer, her stepfather decides that enough is enough. After being cut off, Piper and her sister, Hannah, are sent to learn some responsibility by running their late father’s dive bar in Westport, Washington.
No matter where she goes in the small town, Piper is always bumping into Brendan. Although the fun-loving socialite and the gruff fisherman couldn’t be more opposite, there is an unmistakable connection between them. Distractions are the last thing Piper needs, especially affections for a man who disappears for weeks at a time.
The Roughest Draft – Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka
My rating – 3.8 out of 5 stars
Four years ago, writers Katrina Freeling and Nathan Van Huysen decided to quit working together on bad terms, despite how successful their work has been. In fact, their best seller, “Only Once” is what got them to where they are now, making a mark in the literary industry.
Presently, Katrina and her partner Chris are experiencing some financial issues with their publishing house and a way to remedy that is for Katrina to work together with Nathan once again. It’s not so much as an option considering that Katrina’s and Nathan’s contract calls for them to write one more book together. The two will need to finally confront one another and their past in order to complete the book, which won’t be easy.
Katrina and Nathan will discover that relationships, like writing, can take a few revisions before getting it right. This is true even as passion and prose drive them close together in the Florida heat.
Those are my top four romance reads that I have read this summer! If you are a romance-lover or just getting into the genre, I hope you pick up one of these books before your next beach trip!
Which of these books have you added to your to-be-read list? Is there a summer romance book that should be on this list? Let us know @asicpp on Facebook , Twitter, or Instagram!
