Happy New Year, Broncos! Can you believe another year has already come and gone? Well, you know what a new year means… new resolutions! From losing weight to saving money, this is the time to try to make changes to our lifestyles simply because the calendar has reset. But most times, our resolutions take the back burner as the year goes on, and soon, we forget entirely about our New Year goals. Here are a few of the resolutions we’ll try to stick to and why we probably won’t stick to them.

Losing Weight
Amy Poehler in Baby Mama makes herself food while on the phone and says, "This looks really weird and healthy. I don't like it."
Why it may not stickLosing weight should be about being healthy and happy about our bodies. Choosing to lose weight simply because it’s a new year will probably last about three weeks before you go back to old habits. To make your resolution really count, be realistic about your goals; take baby steps to a healthier and more active lifestyle, and you’ll be more likely stay on track for a long-term basis. Remember to meal prep, avoid diet fads, learn to embrace your insecurities and of course, visit the Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC) for all your fitness needs.

Stopping an annoying habit
Phoebe from Friends hysterically screams, "Stop! Stop the madness!"
Why it won’t stick: Whether it’s that nervous bounce in your leg or constantly biting your nails, your seemingly “annoying” habit is a part of who you are, and you shouldn’t have to change that just because it’s January again. Change your habits if it’ll benefit you or make you happier, not because you think you’re annoying the people around you—you do you, boo.

Being less stressed
Britney Spears says, "Stressville, population: me!"
Why it won’t stick: We’re college students. Stress is our middle name (yes, what a coincidence that we all share the same name). I know: it’s a new year and it’s time for change, but we can’t control our feelings on the basis that our calendars sport a new number. The best we can do is manage our stress in better ways than we did the year before!

Saving money
A man is on the phone and says, "Pay my bills? Of course..." then proceeds to cut his phone line.
Why it won’t stick: Because it never has. We have all year to decide to start saving money and we don’t because things like In-N-Out and Chipotle exist. Newsflash, In-N-Out and Chipotle will still exist in 2015. Remember, our goals should be realistic, so plan to cut back little by little by following these tips!

More often than not, we lose sight of our New Year goals simply because we expect immediate and unrealistic change. This year, strive to make your resolution one that will be a permanent addition to your life. Strive to be healthier, happier and more productive not only this year, but everyday from now on.
