If you’re anything like me, you constantly find yourself browsing through social media apps, looking at photos of scrumptious dessert places or insta-perfect entrées everywhere on your news feed. That of course, gets you curious as to where your friends go to eat out, and you make it your mission to try these places one day this summer.

So many choices, so many new things to try, but where to start? Luckily for you, some of ASI’s writers are well-versed in the world of hyped food joints around Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

Go ahead, indulge in another cheat day, don’t count your calories and schedule a catch up session with your besties over dessert (or ya know, drool while scrolling down your browser).

Slater’s 50/50
The geniuses over at this restaurant chain decided to dedicate their entire menu to two classic American favorites: bacon and burgers. All of their burgers are made with half ground beef, half ground bacon (hence the 50/50 in their name). You also have the option to make your own burger. They have everything with bacon including bacon bits, bacon mayonnaise and bacon pretzel buns, too! Don’t forget their other interesting options (PB & J burger anyone?)

Bruxie
Who would have ever thought that using waffles in place of burger buns could taste so good?! (Guess the owners of Bruxie did!) This eatery divides their menu by two categories: sweet and savory. If you’re feeling more like eating a real meal, Bruxie serves Smoked Salmon Lox & Dill Cream Cheese, or Green Eggs and Ham sandwiched between two Belgian-style waffles. If you’re in a dessert mood, then you should try the creme brulee waffle, served with seasonal fruit, or try the s’more waffle.

Anaheim Packing District
As part of the “Reinventing Anaheim” project, the city has restored and revamped some historic areas of downtown to make it a more modern hangout spot. This area now houses some of the hippest food joints in Anaheim including: Pop Bar, Hans Homemade Ice Cream and Umami Burger.

M & M Donuts
Upon first glance, this doughnut shop looks just like any other, come by again around 10 p.m. and you’ll notice a queue forming for this hole in the wall shop. The reason? M&M’s #instafamous blueberry doughnut. Located conveniently a few blocks from Disneyland, the shop owners only sell this item between 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily. Don’t expect your doughnuts to come in its usual pink box either. M&M stores doughnuts in pizza boxes.

Frostbites
This little dessert chain, first opened in Riverside in 2002 and has since grown to include five other stores in Chino, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Long Beach and Torrance. Frostbites serves all kinds of dessert from Crepes, Custard and Italian Ice, but their most popular menu item is the combination of soft serve custard topped with up to three different flavors of Italian ice. Some of their most popular combinations includes the cactus cooler, with the peach and passion fruit Italian ice.
