Recorded live in Brooklyn, NY by hosts Phoebe Robinson and Jessica Williams, this chart-topping podcast promises three hilarious comedians on every show. In an effort to showcase underrepresented members of the comedy community, 2 Dope Queens makes a point to feature comedians of color, female comedians and LGBTQ+ comedians. The fearless and charismatic hosts along with their guests can often be found dishing on topics such as romance, race, hair journeys and living in New York.
Just as obsessed with true crime as we are? Riddled with jokes and hilarious commentary set against the often serious backdrop of true crime classics, this podcast offers a unique perspective on some of today’s most popular media. Just a few episodes listening to Hinds and Pensavalle gab about their conspiracy theories and personal lives will begin to feel like catching up with an old set of friends.
Small Doses with Amanda Seales
Love intellectual wit and irreverent comedy? Then you’ll want a big dose of Small Doses with Amanda Seales. Comedian, actress, writer and producer Amanda Seales hosts a weekly podcast that “brings you potent truths for everyday use.” With popular episodes including “Side Effects of Being an Independent Woman” and “Side Effects of Being an Only Child,” Small Doses has an episode for every listener. Seales is able to bring a comedic yet acutely self-aware perspective to some of today’s most pressing topics that will get you both laughing and thinking.
Whether you love to hate them or hate to love them, some of the most iconic films in popular culture history may not have received positive critical acclamation. In “How Did This Get Made?” hosts June Diane Raphael, Paul Scheer and Jason Mantzoukas attempt to deconstruct and discuss “bad” movies through snarky commentary and plot-centric jokes. Worried these reviews may be a little biased? Not to worry, “second opinions” (in the form of five-star Amazon reviews of course) are consulted alongside the hosts’ playful commentary. Some previously reviewed films (whether or not you agree these films should be considered “bad” is another story) include “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” “Sharknado” and “The Odd Life of Timothy Green.”
Blast to the past with “Baby-Sitter’s Club Club,” a book-by-book chronological exploration of Ann M. Martin’s best-selling children’s series. Hosts Jack Shepherd and Tanner Greenring take you on a hilarious journey from “Kristy’s Great Idea” (spoiler: the great idea may or may not be—surprise—a baby-sitter’s club) through “The Fire at Mary Anne’s House.” No need to have a fresh memory of the series, Shepherd and Greenring are witty enough on their own to entertain listeners who do not have prior knowledge of the books. Hardcore “The Baby-Sitter’s Club” fans, on the other hand, have the chance to relive this classic series through a fresh perspective, sarcastic character analyses and entertaining albeit critical plot commentary.
Set in the timeless format of a public-radio opinion show, “A Woman’s Smile” hosted by Patti Harrison and Lorelei Ramirez is a modern-day cult classic for deadpan humor enthusiasts. “A Woman’s Smile” offers an authentic take on popular culture and female-empowerment, and even features comedian and Saturday Night Live writer Anna Drezen who gives the weekly scoop on fashion. Laced with satirical sketch-style segments and quirky songs around every corner, “A Woman’s Smile” is quickly making its way to the top of the comedy podcast genre.
Marketed as a comedy “advicecast”, “My Brother, My Brother and Me” features the real-life McElroy brothers Travis, Griffin and Justin for 50 minutes each week. The brothers alternate between answering viewer-submitted and Yahoo! Answers questions, but can often be found going on tangents about almost anything. The advice on this show is just as helpful as it is humorous, and pulls from the brother’s personal experience and individual areas of expertise. Bouncing between self-deprecating and improvisational humor, these brothers promise to be down to Earth and will have you wishing you were a McElroy.
With Special Guest Lauren Lapkus
Your guess is as good as ours on who will be showing up each week on comedy podcast “With Special Guest Lauren Lapkus.” This interview-style podcast is certainly unconventional, with—you guessed it—Lauren Lapkus as the guest every week. How exactly does this work? Well, one thing to know about Lapkus is that she hates hosting interviews. As a result, at the start of each episode, she allows her guest host to take the lead by deciding the episode title, subject matter and what character Lapkus will be showing up as. Lapkus does not get to know what character she will be playing until the recording, leaving her imagination and improvisational skills to run wild. Needless to say, this is a podcast that will keep you on your toes, complete with larger than life characters, celebrity guests that have been taking the world of comedy by storm (including among many, former “Saturday Night Live” star Bobby Moynihan as well as actor/writer/comedian Nick Kroll) and the only permanent segment: an advice sketch titled “Help Me Rhonda.”
