Studying in the BSC

Classes and majors have different demands and students have different needs, so a good campus study spot really depends on such factors for each individual.

There are plenty of places to study on campus, each uniquely different from the next.

The five places below are great if you have what you need with you, whether that is a laptop, a book or two, notes or school-related it.

1. Bronco Statue

Sitting by a majestic statue of our school mascot should help give you the motivation to organize your notes and study as you get ready to ace finals.

The Bronco Statue is by the Bronco Commons, in between the Residential Suites and Kellogg Gym. There might be a steady stream of people passing by, but it’s usually not a noisy area, making it a great place to sit and read. Keep in mind that here are only a few outlets near by, so it’s not the best spot if you’re planning to bring a laptop.

2. The Bronco Student Center

If you’re looking to study, indoors, outdoors, with a TV on or in a quiet room, well the BSC has all of those options.

A popular spot seems to be the upper lobby area, which is located across from Business Services and down the hall from the Bronco Exhibit Gallery. There is an open space, or atrium, surrounded by a rectangle of tables, chairs and plenty of electrical outlets. It also has a great view of the library and stables.

Besides the upper lobby area, there is also an outdoor study area, student study lounge, Center Court study area and plenty of other places to sit. Here is a map of the BSC to get a feel for the area. An added bonus: the BSC is open until 2 a.m. Nov. 29 – Dec. 6.

3. University Library

The University Library has six floors with computers on every floor except the third. If you’re looking for comfy chairs, open tables and cubicles to do your work, you can come here and also enjoy the beautiful view from the Grand Reading Room.

4. Starbucks

Get wired on caffeine and study at the same time! Seriously, it’s a little hard to beat that. Though Starbucks tends to get pretty busy, once you have a spot you can enjoy the comfy chairs, quick access to the library and be close to good drinks.

5. Japanese Garden

With its tranquil atmosphere and luscious landscape, the Japanese Garden is a great place to relax and get some school work done at the same time.

You can hang out with the ducks and turtles while you do math homework or read an English book. It’s only a short walk to the library, so if you need to head to the computers or get an outlet to charge your laptop, you won’t be too far away.

Sometimes you may need certain computer software or a lab specific to your major. Check back tomorrow for an article on good campus spots for completing a project.
