I hope by now we all have had the chance to take a walk through and utilize the newest addition to the Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) campus; if you aren’t sure what I am talking about, I am referring to the… (drum roll, please) Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC, Bldg. 42)!

This facility has everything you need to #RECHARGE 7 days a week:

If you’re not familiar with the term #RECHARGE, it means to regroup, refresh and/or revitalize!

In the BRIC, students, faculty, staff and the CPP community can take their breaks between classes, unwind from a busy day and conquer their health and fitness goals all in one facility, conveniently located on campus!

1. A Place to Relax
The BRIC has become “a place for me to get my mind off everything and do my own thing,” explains Bladimir Martinez, fifth-year marketing management major. “It’s allowed me to expand on that aspect of my life. With the Bronco Fitness Center (BFC), it was just the gym and Intramural Sports, too. But now, the BRIC is so much more.”

2. A Healthy Environment
David Dizon, second-year aerospace engineer, shared his appreciation for the BRIC, saying “It’s great and encouraging that BRIC enrollment [costs] are included in [registration fees]. This helps promote healthy living and brings the campus together, all under one roof.” I couldn’t agree with Dizon more.

The BRIC has amenities that have never been available to CPP students before. Some of the sweet luxuries that the BRIC includes are a 53-foot rockwall, five fitness studios, three indoor basketball courts, a multi-activity court (MAC), two racquetball courts, an indoor running track, a 10-lane lap and leisure pool, along with cardio and strength equipment.

3. New Sports and New Experiences
Martinez continued that the BRIC has opened him up to things he never thought he’d try, such as racquetball (the racquetball courts opened last Friday). “I never thought I would be playing racquetball. The BRIC is a lot of fun and it’s a place to try something different and get your mind off things,” Martinez said.

Many students agree, saying “I plan on using the BRIC all the time,” explains Sara Vasquez, second-year kinesiology major. “I live on campus, so it’s really nice to be able to go workout and then being able to cool off in the pool.”

4. A New Outlook on Personal Fitness
“The BRIC has changed my entire outlook on fitness along with health and well-being. Before, I was someone who wouldn’t workout; just because I had a certain body weight, I thought ‘I’m fine,’ but I think after working out and being in this environment (especially as a Campus Rec supervisor), it has helped me realize that working out is not just to look good; it makes you feel better and you see changes in your body and you want to keep going.”
-Pamela Xue, senior communication and public relations major and member services supervisor

5. A New Social Gathering Area
“[It] has opened up and brought many opportunities to students. With jobs and the amenities of the BRIC, it is a great place for students to gain experience, skills and even hangout. It has become a social gathering place for many on campus to work on their health and fitness goals or even just watch TV in the lobby area,”
Campus Recreation Fitness Coordinator A’Naja Bass said.
