Dorm Sophia Hussain

With the academic year starting again soon, many of you are probably moving into a new room or dorm that you’ll be calling home for the next nine months. Whether you are moving into the dorms, the suites or a new apartment, we’ve got something to help you show your personality in your space!

If you’re moving into one of the dorm halls on campus, there are some decorating limitations you should keep in mind. But you can still follow the rules and show off your creative side!

Make use of the cork board in your dorm room. Pin pictures of people from home or with your new college friends. Make an inspiration board using pictures of your role models and motivational quotations. Or better yet, create your own artwork and hang it up on the walls.

The suites on campus already come furnished so there’s no need for you to buy chairs, desks, etc. But you can always make your space a little more homey by adding do-it-yourself decorative projects that won’t take much of your homework time and keep you on budget like this mason jar vase.

It started with a paintbrush

Staying in an apartment with friends might mean that you will have to buy everything from a bed, to cooking utensils and even your food. If you’re ballin’ on a budget like me and my roommates, try hitting antique stores or flea markets in downtown areas with your roomies!

Don’t shy away from accepting hand-me-downs from your mom and dad either. You can always repurpose furniture or make it your own by painting it a different color like this.

You can grab more ideas from Target and Bed, Bath and Beyond too. Don’t forget to keep checking the Campus Crop for more stories on Cal Poly Pomona’s campus life!
