Now that summer break is here, how are you spending it? Perhaps you’re spending your time traveling or staying in and catching up on that show you’ve been putting off. Maybe you’re taking a summer course or two or taking on extra shifts at work. No matter how you’re spending your summer break, it’s good time to find ways to better yourself, find or polish your skills, and set yourself up for success!
Not sure exactly where to start? No worries! Here are a few ideas that can get you motivated to make this summer more meaningful!
Make a Vision Board
A vision board is a collection of images and phrases that reflect one’s dreams and goals. It doesn’t necessarily need to be focused on your career or material things in the future, but personal things you’d like to happen daily. To make the most out of your vision board, place it somewhere you will see it every day to visualize what you desire. Most view this as a form of manifestation, while others use this to remember what they are striving for in life. Anything that inspires and drives you should go on your vision board. What kind of life do you wish to live?
If you’re interested in learning more about vision boards and how to make your own you can check it out here. Graphic design websites and apps such as Canva and PicsArt are great tools to help create a digital vision board.
Get an Internship
Internships are a great opportunity to acquire new skills and obtain valuable experience. There are several completely remote internships available, allowing you to work at your own pace. Rather than hiring someone new, many organizations choose to promote their interns to full time positions. Remember to make the most of it, and you’ll be able to add something to your resume by the end of the summer. To find available internships that may interest you check out Indeed and LinkedIn!
Take a Course
The world of online learning is fascinating. You can study almost anything online for a fraction of the price of tuition because of the wide selection of classes available. Now is the time to try out a subject or skill you’ve always wanted to learn about. There are courses on business, personal development, financing, and so much more! This is also an opportunity to learn a skill relating to your career that can later help you, whether it’s to land that dream job or to add to your resume.
Below are some great websites with a wide range of course options!
Find a New Hobby
School can be exhausting and stressful but having hobbies helps you unwind and have some fun. Don’t be scared to step outside of your comfort zone and try new things to discover something you enjoy. It could be fitness, painting, baking and cooking, reading, coding, etc. There are so many hobbies you can try out this summer!

While the majority of these activities are geared toward furthering your career and personal life goals, it’s also very important to unwind and take care of yourself physically and mentally. Focus on your physical and mental health this summer. Recognize and understand when you need to take a step back and relax.
To some practicing self-care is meditation, journaling, going for walks, listening to their favorite music, even as simple as having a healthy meal to nourish their body.
It’s great to take this break and use it to learn and do more before classes begin, but none of that can be possible if your mind and body aren’t getting the proper attention and care that they need.
