Susan Ashe, ASI associate director for recreation, programs and marketing and primary BEAT advisor, was recognized at Faculty and Staff Night by Cal Poly Pomona Intercollegiate Athletics as a great friend and supporter of the department at the CPP Men’s Basketball game on February 25.
“It was really exciting and surprising to receive an honor for being a supporter [of the Athletics department], and the recognition was made more special because I didn’t know they had such awards [for supporters],” Ashe said.
Ashe played a significant role on campus during the 2009 NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship, supporting the CPP Men’s team by arranging live viewings of the games in the BSC’s Center Court and Ursa Minor—making it possible for students on campus to follow along and support the team. Ashe also arranged a large screening event in Ursa Major for the Final Championship game, with free giveaways for students who attended.
“Student athletes work hard because they love their sport, so it’s nice to give something extra to help [support] them,” Ashe added. Ashe said that she will continue to support the CPP Athletics program and offers a few tips for those who want to show support with their busy schedules:
- Wear school colors (green and gold)
- Come to games (keep in mind: they are free and you don’t have to stay the whole time…so you can swing by in between classes)
- Check out www.broncoathletics.com, and keep an eye out for weekend events that you and your friends can attend.
