The 8th annual Matthew Myers Memorial Scholarship 5K/Walk will take place on Saturday, October 19.

Matt’s run is a tradition at Cal Poly Pomona that brings hundreds of people from all walks of life together to celebrate the life of Matthew Myers and raise money for student scholarships. Myers, a communication student, lost his life in 2005 when he was struck by a vehicle on campus. His family decided to sponsor a scholarship 5K to honor him.

Matt’s Run is a joint effort of organizations on campus and also has many co-sponsors. Associated Students Incorporated, Cal Poly Pomona Foundation and the Cal Poly Pomona Alumni Association are some of the organizations that team up to make this event possible.

Runners and walkers of all ages are encouraged to attend. Early registration is $20 for students and $35 for adults. Registration on the day of the event is an additional $5.

The race will begin at the Kellogg Arabian Horse Center at 8 a.m. From there, a USA Track and Field Certified course takes participants through the university’s scenic landscape past the residence halls, citrus groves and animal pastures.

The 21st Annual Pumpkin Festival will be held the same weekend at the Farm Store at Kellogg Ranch. Also on Saturday and Sunday, nearly 500,00 live bugs will be on display for the Insect Fair, which will take place in the Bronco Student Center.
