The universally flattering peplum trend has been going strong for two years and if you haven’t given it a try yet, this fall would be a good time to start. Honestly, the style can seem a bit scary, but once you give it a shot, you won’t regret it.
Four styles of peplum can work on any body:
A) The shirt
B) The dress
C) The skirt
D) The peplum belt
This style can show off a feminine figure like no other. The look can create or emphasize an hour glass figure. For a woman with a naturally defined shape, the look can create a beautiful contrast between her hips and waist. There are just a few things you should keep in mind so you look your best.
When you wear peplum, you will want it to be the main focus. Don’t make a peplum shirt compete with an A-line skirt or flared pants. Besides the flare at your hips, the rest of your outfit should be fairly form-fitting. Wear either a pencil skirt or narrow pants to emphasize your hips and not distract from the overall look.
Make sure whatever peplum piece you choose works for you. If you’re curvy, you can go for a full and flared peplum style. The whole point is for there to be a flare, but if you’re petite, you don’t want it to overwhelm you.
Choose a solid color when in doubt. After all, you can’t go wrong with a black blouse. Pair it with a statement necklace to add a bit of color.
Follow these guidelines and you will be looking as stylish as Pippa Middleton — princess of peplum — in no time.
