Maria Carrion: ASI Commercial Services Coordinator

Maria Carrion

What is your position at ASI?

Commercial Services Coordinator

How long have you been at ASI?

1 ½ years

What do you like about your job?

I feel as though my job complements the educational process by providing an array of learning opportunities for my students such as  training and development, customer service and retail experience, which will give each student employee professional tools to use long after they leave ASI.

What is unique about your job compared to other staff positions at ASI?

My position is a retail location that serves multiple services for the campus community like discounted entertainment tickets, lost and found, lounge space, games and billiards, and flat screen TVs to watch sports games.  My department also  provides numerous program opportunities for students to get involved in.

What do you hope to achieve this 2010-11 academic year?

To introduce console gaming as another service for students. Console gaming is really popular right now so it is only obvious that we should provide this opportunity for students to take advantage of.

What is your favorite ASI memory?

My favorite memory is when I first interviewed with ASI, and I wore my favorite pair of stilettos pumps. I then learned that I would have to walk  up to Kellogg West for lunch through “Machu Picchu” (hiking trail), which is not an easy task when you’re wearing stilettos.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

I’d like to continue to work in a position where I can expand my skills in entrepreneurship and management.
