It was a sea of green and gold as Cal Poly Pomona’s campus community came out to Center Court in the BSC to cheer on the Men’s Basketball Team as they battled it out against Duke University during an exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 4.
After tip off, which began at 7 p.m., more than 200 fans sat in suspense with pom-poms and clappers as the Broncos faced off against the Duke’s Blue Devils, the 2010 Division I Champions.
The Broncos earned the 2010 Division II Championship Title after a 65-53 defeat against Indiana last spring in Massachusetts.
Hae Yeon Kang, a third-year hospitality student, came out to support the Broncos and said it is the Bronco Pride that is most important.
“This is really exciting, it’s not too often we get to play against a Division I team,” said Kang. “Not too many students have school pride, but this game gives students a reason to have spirit and come out and support our team.”
Cal Poly Pomona was invited by Duke University to travel to North Carolina and participate in the exhibition game. The Men’s Basketball Team begins its 2010-11 season on Wednesday, Nov. 17 against Pacifica at 7:30 p.m.
Although the Broncos lost the game as the final score was Duke 81 – CPP 60, it was a great opportunity for the Broncos and it was a good game to kick start the new season. For more information on the Men’s Basketball team, visit www.broncoathletics.com
