14 Things You Need To Know About The BRIC

Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) is graced with various landmarks from “the pointy building” aka the CLA Building (Bldg. 98) to the Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (Bldg. 42).

An outside view of the BRICThe BRIC is more than just a pretty building. It’s an awesome place for you to squeeze in a group fitness class, try to scale the largest rock climbing wall in the CSU system, join an Intramural (IM) Sports team or do a solo workout.

If you’re still new to the BRIC, here’s a handy list of pointers that will help you make the most out of your BRIC experience.


1. The BRIC offers changing rooms that are both ADA accessible and universal.

These changing rooms include a toilet, sink, shower and locker for students who may be gender non-conforming or who may need extra assistance navigating the BRIC’s changing rooms.


2. Workout equipment throughout the BRIC is also accessible.

3. Never miss out on a workout thanks to the BRIC’s live calendars.

4. You can get your non-CPP student friend a guest pass.
Students line up to enter the BRICBRIC membership is included when you pay your CPP tuition and registration fees, which means enrolled students don’t have to pay out of pocket for each visit. However, if you desperately want to show off the BRIC to a non-CPP friend, guest passes are available.


5. Rental lockers are available at the beginning of each quarter.
Campus Rec attendant shows students how to use lockersIf the BRIC is your second home, you may want to consider buying a quarterly locker rental from Member Services. But if you aren’t that into commitment, you can always snag a day-use locker for free.


6. Forgot a towel? Equipment Checkout can cover ya.

7. You can rep BRIC pride or buy other fitness essentials at the Pro Shop.
Yoga mats and more for sale at the BRIC pro shopThe Pro Shop is stocked with a range of Campus Recreation branded items, from baseball tees and water bottles to duffel bags. You can also stock up on non-branded fitness essentials such as hand wraps, chalk bags and headphones.


8. Interested in hosting a BBQ? Outdoor grills are available upon request!
Grill with a view of the BRIC poolThe BRIC poolside lounge has the perfect set up for kickbacks with your friends, complete with hammocks and grills. Those grills are available for reservations, however, you must submit your reservation 10 days in advance, fill out the reservation form and complete the ASI grill orientation.

Then, you can start grilling!


9. Yes, Campus Rec does offer student positions at the BRIC.

10. Adventures

This is the team that hosts indoor rock climbing events such as Boulderodeo as well as outdoor trips such as Joshua Tree Hike and Explore and Bonelli Regional Park Kayaking.


11. Aquatics
Two students try key log rolling at BRIC poolThis is the group responsible for all the cool stuff that goes down at the BRIC pool! You can thank Aquatics for some of our favorite poolside events such as scuba certification courses, Aqua Zumba and movie nights such as Flick and Float.


12. Fitness

13. Intramural Sports
Student playing intramural volleyballEvery quarter, Campus Rec opens up their IM Sports registration for a whole new batch of Broncos to give IM Sports a shot! Fall quarter’s teams include 7v7 soccer, 3v3 basketball, flag football and volleyball.

14. Sport Clubs

IM Sports not catching your eye? Sport clubs are an opportunity for you to play your favorite sports with like-minded Broncos! Some of the sport clubs offered include Bronco Ascenders, CPP Triathlon, Cycling Club, Martial Arts Club, CPP Roller Hockey Club and more.
