Another Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) Homecoming has come and gone! If you missed the hoopla on Saturday, Feb. 27, don’t fret! We’ve got a detailed rundown of the event.
Students, faculty, alumni, family and friends braved the 80 degree weather on Saturday equipped with sunglasses and a whole lot of sunscreen. The fun-filled day at Bronco Commons included petting zoos, campus tours, informational booths, carnival attractions and much more.
The festival kicked off at 1 p.m. with carnival activities that included a Ferris wheel, giant slide, paratrooper and giant swings. There were informational tents set up by various clubs, organizations and alumni featuring free giveaways.
At the Bronco Commons stage, DJs played some hit singles while spectators patiently waited for indie-pop band The Drums to take the stage at 4 p.m.
The Drums performed songs “Money,” “Days,” “The Future” and much more as the crowd swayed to the guitar riffs and swooned over lead singer Johnny Pierce’s Morrissey-like dance moves.
Call me, Johnny.
The event also featured the CPP women’s basketball game at 5:30 p.m. where CPP faced off against Cal State San Marcos at the Kellogg Gym. The men’s basketball game against San Marcos followed at 7:30 p.m.
At 9:30 p.m., the university hosted their annual fireworks extravaganza at Bronco Commons.
The fireworks show was followed by the dance at 10 p.m. at the Bronco Student Center, Ursa Major where students danced the night away.
