It’s a phenomenon that includes feathery boas, endless glitter, colorful beads, the most competitive game of bingo you’ll ever play and of course, a fabulous drag queen—you guessed it: Drag Bingo!
The Associated Students Inc. (ASI) Bronco Events and Activities Team (BEAT) hosted Drag Bingo this past Thursday, Oct. 29 in the Bronco Student Center (BSC). This year, Roxy Wood came back to the Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) campus looking to stir things up again.
The night was filled with witty jokes, outrageous chanting and some very mild violence (I mean, of course pelting bingo winners with your failed pieces of paper is fun). “Drag Bingo was definitely not what I expected. I had a lot of fun, though I wish it was even longer,” said Josh Landicho, fourth-year graphic design major, “I’ll most likely be back in the future.”
Throughout the event, students had numerous chances to score bingo (in countless different ways), as well as win raffle prizes. Giveaways included RockStar swag, BroncoFusion posters signed by B.o.B., and tickets to Knott’s Berry Farm and Disneyland. But the big grand prize? A GoPro, which went to the final bingo winner Carlie Zamora! “As a freshman, this is one of the first BEAT events I’ve been to, and I’m obviously so glad I came!” said the first-year theater major.
But this amazing event wouldn’t have happened without BEAT Programming Chairs, Brenda Calderon and Ariana Afzali! Both chairs were hard at work weeks prior to make this event as successful and fun as it was for you, Broncos!
Afzali stated, “It was important for us to bring Drag Bingo with Roxy Wood back this year and make it a tradition. Not only is it fun, it’s also a great way to promote and celebrate CPP’s inclusivity and diversity.”
Both chairs agreed, “It would be a pleasure to chair this event again. It was a good experience and it was nice to see everyone having a good time.”
