Cyber Security and Awareness Fair


Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) will be hosting its annual Cyber Security and Awareness Fair on Thursday, Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Ursa Major (Bldg. 35-2611), Ursa Minor (Bldg. 35-2135) and Andromeda (Bldg. 35-2345/2343/2341) at the Bronco Student Center (BSC). The event welcomes all and offers great opportunities to network with professionals in the security industry, including Dell, Palo Alto Networks, Checkpoint, ChaffeyHigh Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA), Crowe Horwath and Students with an Interest in Future Technology (SWIFT).

Some of the presentations at the fair are as follows:

There will be a hands-on demo on Smartphone Hacking workshops for beginners at 10:30 a.m. and advanced participants at noon. There will also be a hands-on demo that shows the audience how easy it is to be hacked through a wireless network by using a device called Pineapple, where participants will be invited to use the device. These demos will be held at both 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 a.m.

There will be presentations by Dennis London from London Security Solutions (“Securing the Cyber World Starts with You” at noon), Howard Williamson from X1 (“Social Media Crumbs” at noon), Israel Perez from Cylance (“Five Focus Areas of Incident Response” at 1 p.m.)  and Jason Haddix from HP (“Mobile Application Hacking is a New Area for Security Practitioners” at 1 p.m.).

The fair will also use this time to help students advance their careers. Participants are encouraged to bring their resumes to learn more about the best way to handle job interviews. “Table Etiquette” will be held at 10:30 a.m., “Skills for a Successful Interview” at noon and “Put Your Best Face Forward: Make-Up for Your Job Interview” at 1 p.m.
