Let’s be honest, going out can sometimes feel like a chore because most entertainment comes at a cost. But luckily for you, we compiled a list of some of the free events happening right around our lovely university. So let’s keep our wallets safe in our pockets, or purses, because I think for us college students the saying goes, “mo’ money, NO problems.”
Downtown Pomona, Free Concert
The Office of Los Angeles County is sponsoring a free concert in downtown Pomona, Saturday, Aug. 9 from 6-10 p.m. in Thomas Plaza. The performer La Palabra Quintet is said to be the “Godfather of Romantic Salsa.” His music can be categorized as afrocuban, jazz, salsa, cha-cha, bachata and mambo. Also taking place that day is the Second Saturday Artwalk and Downtown Pomona Farmers Market.
Movies in the Plaza
Mosaic Pomona hosts a summer movie series in Downtown Pomona’s Thomas Plaza. Watch some of these favorites on the big screen under the stars. Movies start at sundown, generally around 8 p.m.. Everyone is encouraged to pack a picnic, bring snacks and invite everyone you know to join! Each night there is free popcorn provided as well! Next showings:
Friday, Aug. 8 – The Lego Movie
Friday, Aug. 22 – Frozen
Los Angeles County Fair (Aug. 29-Sep. 28.)
Although this is not typically a free event, Ralph’s is offering Food Drive Fridays at the LACF from noon-3 p.m.; just donate five canned goods and receive free admission to the fair that day!
Pomona is host to two farmers markets, the Pomona Valley Farmers’ Market every Saturday all year round and the Downtown Pomona Certified Farmers Market takes place the second Saturday of every month. Walk around and enjoy taste-testing of fresh summer fruits! Then try some of these yummy recipes.
Pomona Night Out
One Saturday night every month, Downtown Pomona provides all its guests with live music, entertainment, plenty of food samples, and arts and crafts to be made.
Arts Colony in Downtown Pomona
This area has murals and sculptures throughout. With a collection of galleries, shops and artist lofts, the pieces displayed here is a sight to see for anyone who appreciates the arts!
