Staying in town this holiday weekend with no major plans? Not to worry. Just because you don’t have getaway or mini vacation planned, does not mean that you will have a boring 4th of July.

We’ve compiled a list of fireworks shows, parades and attractions that will keep you busy and entertained all weekend long, and the best part? It’s only a few miles away.

If you’re spending the holiday weekend with the whole family, with little kiddies included, you might want to check out the 4th of July Fireworks at Redondo Beach. Besides the fireworks show at 9 p.m., they will be having a paddling lesson at the lagoon, a DJ, a marathon run and arts and crafts activities for kids.

With the sandy beaches, cool waters and the California sun as your scenery, the festivities at Huntington Beach will not only have you feeling patriotic, it will also help you get into summer mode. The city will be hosting a breakfast starting 9 a.m., a Surf City 5K run, a parade down Pacific Coast Highway and a fireworks extravaganza at 9 p.m.

Come’on, nothing is more patriotic than a baseball game and fireworks! The Los Angeles Angels will be playing at home against the Houston Astros on July 4 followed by a fireworks display at 5:15 p.m..

Live music, entertainment, courtesy of Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers, combined with a fireworks show is the main attraction at the Hollywood Bowl. With their Bring Your Own Food/picnic policy, an open stadium and a view of the Hollywood sign, guests will enjoy a different kind of Independence Day celebration experience.

The city of Pasadena will be celebrating the 88th Annual AmericaFest at the Rose Bowl Stadium starting 2 p.m. in the stadium. They will have motorcycle stunts, musical performances, food and a fireworks show at 9 p.m.

If you’re looking for something more low-key and local, the cities surrounding Cal Poly Pomona also have their own activities at local facilities.

Chino Hills is hosting a picnic on the 4th at 2 p.m. at the Big Leagues Dreams Chino Hills Park.

Diamond Bar will be having a 4th of July Blast, with a musical performance, food and fireworks at Lorbeer Middle School.

Finally, right here in Pomona will be a monster truck and firework extravaganza at the Fairplex.

We wish everyone a fun and safe 4th of July weekend. Be sure to share with us using #CampusCropChat pictures and statuses about how you spent the holiday weekend.

Special thanks from ASI to all of those who have served, and those currently serving, our country.
