The Bronco Fitness Center (BFC) is spreading awareness during Cardiovascular Awareness Month by hosting a month-long campaign series called “I Heart My Heart” during February.
“We are trying to get people more aware of Cardiovascular Awareness Month and have them start using the gym more,” said Gema Barrios, BFC program manager.
The BFC is selling “I Heart My Heart” T-shirts in hopes of students showing support around campus and promoting a healthy heart. When a T-shirt is purchased, one receives a free pass to the gym for themselves or a friend.
Inspired by the “I Heart My Heart” campaign, comes the “I Heart My Friend’s Heart, Too.” This campaign provides the BFC members the opportunity to receive a discount for their March fees by referring a friend to the BFC. Referring one friend earns $5 off March membership, two friends referred earns $10 off and three or more friends referred earns the month of March free.
Barrios also developed a program for the campaign that includes personal training sessions, with four packages to choose from. One training session is 15 minutes for $5. The workout packages are already pre-set and focus on a specific section of the body.
According to the American Heart Association, on average 2,200 Americans die of cardiovascular disease each day, an average of one death every 39 seconds. The “I Heart My Heart” campaign and others like it hope to change those statistic by bringing more awareness to cause.
